This week, we examine the first 48 hours of the Burnham government through the lens of African and migrant communities. We look at his Cabinet, his first policy announcements, and what they really mean.
There are reasons for optimism. Miatta Fahnbulleh - born in Liberia, arrived in Britain as an asylum seeker, now Secretary of State for Energy - is in Cabinet with real power. That matters for how our community is viewed. But Shabana Mahmood remains at the Home Office, and that is a sore point for us.
We wait and see.
Burnham is not Starmer. But has the system changed, or just the tone? That's the question we're asking.
